Assalamu ‘Alaikum and Welcome to my blog! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit. My name is Deanna and I am thrilled to have you here. I am a mother to 3 wonderful boys and married to an amazing and supportive husband, and I started homeschooling my children back in 2010.
Lessons from the Gulf began as a resource for homeschooling parents to help them along their journey. It all started with one of the first things I made: a printable Surat Al-Fatiha lapbook to be used as a supplement to the Ad-Duha Institute’s Surat Al-Fatiha Minibook. This quickly progressed into several other Surahs in no time. When I saw how much my kids enjoyed assembling and using them, I created Lessons from the Gulf to share what I had created with other homeschooling parents in the hopes that they would enjoy them as much as we had. Moreover, they would be amazing timesavers since I happily already did all the work!
Diet and health are also very important topics to me. After I had my first child, I wanted to make sure I only gave him the best food so I went and bought all organic. However, I quickly learned that there was more to healthy eating than just buying organic. Ingredients and food preparation also come into play. For example, I learned of the important benefits of sourdough bread over other kinds, grass fed/finished beef, sprouted flour, and kefir. I try to use what I have learned in my recipe creations as well as modifying existing recipes I already have.
Mothers. Quite possibly the best resource in cooking tips and recipes. Both my Lebanese mother and mother-in-law are living cookbooks. I have never seen either of them actually use a recipe…ever! This made for interesting times in the kitchen whenever I would ask how much of a certain ingredient they used. As a child, and even now as an adult, I would do my best to write down recipes while watching them cook. Needless to say, that can be quite challenging; but it is worth it. The Mediterranean diet is incredibly healthy, and I plan on sharing all the recipes that I am able to with you.
Thanks again for stopping by! I hope this blog helps you along your journey in homeschooling, health, and happiness!
