I have another fun lapbook to share with you today.  Surat Al-Qaari’ah Lapbook.  InshaAllah you and your children find it of benefit.

Surah Summary:

Surat Al-Qaari’ah is surah number 101 in the Quran.  It was revealed in Mecca before the hijrah to Medina.  It gets its name from the first ayah which means striking calamity.  This surah tells us about the Day of Resurrection and the events that will happen before this day.  People are divided into two groups.  One with a heavy scale of good deeds will rejoice in a pleasant life in Paradise.  Those with a scale of a few good deeds will, his home will be a “bottomless pit”. Allah asks us in this surah, “What is the striking calamity?”  A calamity is when a disaster happens.   It is an event that is so great that we can not comprehend it.  Qaari’ah is derived from the word ‘qar’ which means to strike or beat something against something else to make a noise.    So for example a whip or a hammer is called a  ‘miqra’ah.’  He goes on further to say, ” (It is) the Day when people will be like moths scattered about.  So Allah is warns us that this day when people will be running around like moths not knowing where they are going or what to do.  People will be running into each other, knocking each other down because they are in such a rush.  They do not know what is going on.  Like moths in the night when they are just flying about. He continues to give us insight in this day.  “And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.”  Allah is telling us that the mountains will be destroyed.  They will become like wool, which is very light and can easily blow in the wind.  As I stated above, in ayahs 8 & 9, depending on our scale of good deeds we will be given either a blessing of paradise or the doom of hell.  He continues to explain to us what the “bottomles pit” is.  Some scholars have said that a person will be falling into hellfire from a very tall height.  Other scholars have said it is the home of people who do not do good deeds.  In the last ayah He explains that it is “intensely hot.”  This fire is 69 times hotter than the fire here on earth.

The ages for these lapbooks

This lapbook is meant to be used with the Ad-Duha Institute Mini Tafseer Books.  You can purchase the Surat Al-Qaari’ah mini book or you can purchase the Surat Al Qaari’ah e-book and print it out yourself.  You can buy each book separately or as a set.  Check out the pages of the books here.  I gave a book to each child so that they can color and participate by reading along with me. These lapbooks can be used at the elementary level grades 1-6.  If you have older students you can have them read and do the minbook themselves.  They can either cut and paste the answers into the mini books or they can write it in themselves.  You can give them a quiz after a review to see if they have fully understood and retained the information.  I will be sharing a study guide and quiz later so be sure to keep a look out. If you have younger readers you can read it together as a group and then you can help them cut and paste the answers inside the mini books.  The very young may not be able to do all the mini books.  You can pick and choose which ones you would like your students to do.  Another option is for the parent/teacher to cut out all mini books and paste them into the lapbook so it is ready for the younger student to use.  Then the parent or teacher can focus on spending time going over and explaining the surah. If this is too easy for your older students then you can soon check out my Surat Al-Qaari’ah Notebooking Pages where they can write out what they know and learned from the surah.  Keep a look out.

How long will it take to complete this lapbook?

It all depends on you and your family.  Older students might finish in a few days to a week and younger students may take a couple of weeks or more.  Do not feel pressured to finish in a certain time.  Pace yourself and your kids to what best suits your family.
