Surat Al-Asr Lapbook

I have another fun lapbook to show you all today!  Surat Al-Asr Lapbook!  InshaAllah you and your family find it if benefit.

Surah Summary:

Surat Al-Asr was revealed in Mecca, though some scholars have said it may have been Madina.  This is one of the two shortest surahs in the Quran. It is surah number 103 and it has only three ayaat.

This surah is about using our time wisely and to do the things Allah has told us to do.  This surah tells us four important things we should be doing to be successful in this life.  In the first ayah, Allah(SWT) swears by time.  We are only given a certain amount of time and once it is gone we cannot get it back.  Time is one of the most important things Allah has given us and we should not waste it.  Allah tells us that man is at a loss unless he uses the time he has been given.

The four most important things we must do to be successful is:

• Believe in Allah- to be believe that Allah is the only God and to not associate any partners with him.
• Do good deeds- we must do the things Allah has commanded us to do and to stay away from everything Allah has told us to stay away from.  The things we must do are 1) Hajj   2) Zakah   3)Fasting   4) Prayer
• To always tell the truth
• To be patient

Some scholars have said that all knowledge and objectives of the Quran are mentioned in this surah.  In a few short sentences man is taught how to achieve happiness.  As I mentioned earlier, time is mentioned in the first ayah which tells us that human beings are at a gradual loss in their lives.  Except those who have faith, do good deeds, and advise each other to truth and patience.  These principles involve the practical and personal doctrine of Islam.

Time is a precious thing that we tend to waste, whether intentionally or unintentionally.  This surah is trying to teach us that we need to use our time wisely.  Our time is like capital.  Everyday a portion of that capital is taken away.  This surah is telling us to use the time we have on this earth to do good and be kind to others.

The ages for these lapbooks

This lapbook is meant to be used with the Ad-Duha Institute Mini Tafseer Books.  You can purchase the Surat Al-Asr mini book or you can purchase the Surat Al-Asr e-book and print it out yourself.  You can buy each book separately or as a set.  Check out the pages of the books here.  I gave a book to each child so that they can color and participate by reading along with me.

These lapbooks can be used at the elementary level grades 1-6.  If you have older students you can have them read and do the minbook themselves.  They can either cut and paste the answers into the mini books or they can write it in themselves.  You can give them a quiz after a review to see if they have fully understood and retained the information.  I will be sharing a study guide and quiz later so be sure to keep a look out.

If you have younger readers you can read it together as a group and then you can help them cut and paste the answers inside the mini books.  The very young may not be able to do all the mini books.  You can pick and choose which ones you would like your students to do.  Another option is for the parent/teacher to cut out all mini books and paste them into the lapbook so it is ready for the younger student to use.  Then the parent or teacher can focus on spending time going over and explaining the surah.

How long will it take to complete this lapbook?

It all depends on you and your family.  Older students might finish in a few days to a week and younger students may take a couple of weeks or more.  Do not feel pressured to finish in a certain time.  Pace yourself and your kids to what best suits your family.
