Surat Al-Maa'oon Lapbook
I have another fun lapbook to share with you today. Surat Al-Maa’oon Lapbook. InshaAllah you and your children find it of benefit.
Surah Summary:
In general, this surah is about the hereafter and those who deny the Day of Judgement. They also deny giving charity, helping the orphan, are heedless in their prayers and do not help their neighbors.
There is a different consensus about who exactly this man is , but regardless he was a very cruel man. There are also different variations of the story, but one version tells us this man had a habit of slaughtering two camels every week. This should to everyone how rich he was. So one day an orphan came knocking on the selfish man’s door and the orphan asked if he could have some of the meat that was slaughtered. The cruel man beat this orphan with a stick and admonished him. Surat Al-Maa’oon was revealed on this occasion.
Allah(SWT) says in this surah that the one who denies the Day of Judgement also denies his actions will be held for account on this day. So they also deny helping the orphans and feeding the poor. Those who deny the orphans and the poor, just like this selfish man, think helping others is a waste of time and money. One should show affection to the orphans and humane treatment to the poor.
Allah (SWT) also talks about being heedless of ones prayers. He says one who forgets is not serious about praying. Those who are careless and heedless of their prayers are busy with the worldly enjoyments. And those who show their piety to the public and not when they are home alone. He continues to talk about those who do not do the little things to help out their neighbors. Things that are insignificant like a plate, salt or batteries, are a necessity to the neighbors at that time. Maybe their electricity went out and they need matches to light a fire, etc.
All these matters are mentioned to show us signs of anyone who possesses them are selfish and think these matters do not matter in the hereafter. Our actions are based on intentions.
The ages for these lapbooks
This lapbook is meant to be used with the Ad-Duha Institute Mini Tafseer Books. You can purchase the Surat Al-Maa’oon mini book or you can purchase the Surat Al-Maa’oon e-book and print it out yourself. You can buy each book separately or as a set. Check out the pages of the books here. I gave a book to each child so that they can color and participate by reading along with me.
These lapbooks can be used at the elementary level grades 1-6. If you have older students you can have them read and do the minbook themselves. They can either cut and paste the answers into the mini books or they can write it in themselves. You can give them a quiz after a review to see if they have fully understood and retained the information. I will be sharing a study guide and quiz later so be sure to keep a look out.
If you have younger readers you can read it together as a group and then you can help them cut and paste the answers inside the mini books. The very young may not be able to do all the mini books. You can pick and choose which ones you would like your students to do. Another option is for the parent/teacher to cut out all mini books and paste them into the lapbook so it is ready for the younger student to use. Then the parent or teacher can focus on spending time going over and explaining the surah.
If this is too easy for your older students then you can soon check out my Surat Al-Maa’oon Notebooking Pages where they can write out what they know and learned from the surah. Keep a look out.
How long will it take to complete this lapbook?
It all depends on you and your family. Older students might finish in a few days to a week and younger students may take a couple of weeks or more. Do not feel pressured to finish in a certain time. Pace yourself and your kids to what best suits your family.
